Their son, Shaden, graduated from MNU in 2023, where he played football and majored in ministry. He currently serves as a youth pastor at Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene.
Testimony
As a child, Shawn Siegfreid would not have predicted the direction his life would take
and how he would one day answer the call to ministry. Although love was present in his childhood family, their home was filled with turmoil and strife, and God was not a part of the equation. When Shawn was a sophomore in high school, his parents split up, and a pastor named Dr. Paul Cunningham reached out to his father. Due to this encounter, his dad began attending Olathe College Church, where he found the saving grace of Jesus thus changing the trajectory of his life and others.
Shawn attended MidAmerica Nazarene University on a football scholarship. The summer before his freshman year, he gave his heart to the Lord, largely due to the great transformation he witnessed in his father. Shawn planned to go into law enforcement after he graduated, but the first summer of his married life to Sherri, he felt the call into ministry. His first assignment was as a youth pastor for his father-in-law in Topeka, KS.
Pastoral Heart
Shawn has never forgotten what it’s like to be lost and a part of a lost family and has a passion for reaching other families like his. He credits College Church’s mission and Pastor Paul’s outreach to his father for saving the lives of his entire family. For years now, Shawn and his staff and leaders spend time each week in a process called “Chasing Sheep” where they identify those in their church family who are struggling physically or spiritually or who are seeking. It is important to Shawn that people are encouraged and discipled by their church family.
Heart for Pastors
After pastoring these many years, Shawn knows the challenges of ministry and has a heart for pastors and churches. He believes our pastors and churches need encouragement during these days. He believes strongly that the church is still the hope of the world and in equipping churches and pastors to serve in their communities to fulfill this important task.
