Hey Youth Leader!
I wanted to give you all some information about a ministry opportunity that our district NYI is participating in on Fri. Jan. 23 to Sat. Jan. 24, 2009 We'll be gathering together at Mission Church of the Nazarene to do the 30 Hour Famine, www.30hourfamine.org. For those of you who haven't done the Famine, it's a combination fundraiser/learning experience focusing on the world issue of poverty. Before the Famine, teens are encouraged to raise money that will go completely to children around the world. During the Famine, we will all fast for 30 hours in an attempt to experience first-hand what hungry really feels like.
Let me give you a basic schedule of the Famine.
- Fri. @ noon - begin fasting (at school or wherever you are)
- Fri. @ 7 pm - opening session @ Mission Church
- Sleep @ Mission Church
- Sat. @ 9 am - head out to service projects around SD county
- Sat. @ 2 pm - return to Mission
- Sat. @ 6 pm - Break-Fast (we'll eat at Mission)
- Sat. @ 7 pm - head home
If you're interested in participating, here's what we'd like you to do: 1) Register online at www.30hourfamine.org. You will receive a free packet that explains all about the Famine, where the moneys go, and how to personally raise funds. 2) Get your group (including adult volunteers) excited about it! 3) Start having your teens raise money (it's really easy - it's like collecting sponsorships) 4) Come to Mission Church for the Famine! BTW, you don't need to participate in the Famine to raise funds.remember, 100% of the money goes straight to kids in need.
If you're interested in helping plan and run the Famine (please please please), let me (Patrick) know as soon as possible! We have at least 10 service project ideas and we would like to assign you as a team leader. Each project also needs drivers, so recruit your adult volunteers! These service projects put legs to what we're trying to accomplish through this event. We need your help. For a complete list of project ideas contact me.
You will be receiving a packet in the mail soon to give you more detailed information and to help you advertise this event.
We want to continually unite our churches and youth groups for the sake of Christ, our local community, and the global community. Please join us in making a difference. Thanks for all you do!
In Christ,
Patrick Gallandt
